Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee

Every state agency employing 50 or more employees must establish an Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee to achieve EEO Program Certification. The Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (EIAC):

  • provides advice and direction to the appointing authority of the agency on department EEO/EI programs and goals;

  • identifies problems and barriers to affirmative action target groups in recruitment, selection, and retention;

  • identifies EEO/EI training needs of department managers and supervisors; and

  • heightens the awareness of EEO/EI issues throughout the department.

​Trainings Available Through BEI

  1. The Roles and Responsibilities of an Effective Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee course is designed to address three areas: planning, structure and parameters of equal opportunity and affirmative action. Among the topics discussed in this training are bylaws, roles and responsibilities, goals, work plan ​statutes, policies and procedures, and statewide programs.​​​

  2. The Subtle Acts of Exclusion course explains how to understand, identify, and stop microaggressions.​​​​​

  3. The Reasonable Accommodations course is designed to provide an overview of the basic laws, structure, philosophy, and planning elements that are essential to reasonable accommodation. This EEO course will cover the Federal and State definition of disability, the meaning of reasonable accommodation, the typical process for requesting accommodations and the rights and responsibilities of the person with disabilities and the supervisor. In addition, attendees will work through a practical exercise.​​​

  4. ​The Harassment Is... course will help attendees discover what harassment is and what to do if you or someone you work with is harassed.​​​​ Most people recognize that harassment occurs when someone openly bullies, threatens or even terrorizes another person. However, harassment isn’t always that obvious.​​​
