Employment and Income Verifications

​The State of Wisconsin has partnered with The Work Number® from Equifax to provide an automated, simple, and secure method for processing employment and income verifications. This service is available 24/7 for executive branch employees at STAR agencies (excluding the Legislative Audit Bureau), allowing fast and private verification decisions.

Instructions for Employees​​

Employees should direct lending institutions, property managers, or other requesting businesses to https://theworknumber.com/, member@equifax.com, or the Client Service Center at (800) 367-5690. Verifiers will need your Social Security Number and may request the State of Wisconsin’s Employer Code: 10241613.​

Employee Portal Access

Through the portal at https://theworknumber.com/, employees can access the following tools at no charge:

  • Employment Data Report: See who has requested a verification of employment/income of you.
    • Mock-Verification of Income Report.
  • Letters Center: Create an employee-generated verification of employment or income letter for landlords or other verifiers.

Providing a Salary Key

If a verifier specifically requests a "salary key" (a secure, single-use code granting permission to view your income and employment data), follow these steps:
  1. Log into https://theworknumber.com/​ and register for an account.
  2. Generate the salary key and print or email it with instructions to your verifier.​

Instructions for Verifiers

Registered Verifiers

If you are already registered, log into https://theworknumber.com/. Search for the State of Wisconsin using Employer Code 10241613 and search for the specific employee by their Social Security Number.

New Verifiers

If you are not yet registered, complete the following steps:

  • Complete the online verifier registration process at https://theworknumber.com/.
  • Receive your verifier credentials from Equifax (normal processing time is 1-2 business days).
  • Log in to begin verifying employment and income.
